Take CO\u2082 reduction programs, for example. They bring together three challenging characteristics. First, they\u2019re highly complex, because they involve many processes and supply chains. Second, they\u2019re indivisible. Every team has to deliver for the whole to succeed. And third, they\u2019re non-codifiable, since they rely on tacit knowledge that can\u2019t just be written down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to<a href=\"https:\/\/insights.ieseg.fr\/en\/resource-center\/expert\/lucas-amaral-lauriano\/\"> Professor AMARAL<\/a>, the problem is that most organizations are built in silos, which clash with the integrative nature of sustainability. \u201cThe more the sustainability team tried to solve tensions, the more new ones emerged, creating a cycle of failure.\u201d So, what can managers do when faced with this \u2018dark side of sustainability implementation\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBefore launching, dissect your practices: How complex, indivisible, and non-codifiable are they in your context? If they\u2019re highly integrative, you\u2019ll need more than resources or goodwill \u2014 you\u2019ll need to rethink how departments are managed and work together.
